Democratic Challengers Emerging for the 26th District

According to The Albany Project, Jonathan Powers, 28, an Iraq War veteran and founder of War Kids Relief may challenge Republican incumbent Tom Reynolds in the suburban Buffalo-based 26th Congressional District.

Reynolds, now infamously known for his role in helping to cover up for the misdeeds of disgraced Congressman Mark Foley, was narrowly re-elected last year over multimillionaire industrialist Jack Davis, who apparently is now mulling a third attempt to run for the seat.

The 2006 National Journal liberal/conservative scores and the congress.org power rankings were just released last week.

According to National Journal, Republican Tom Reynolds ranks as the state's most conservative congressional representative with a conservative score of 66.8. In addition, Reynolds was also ranked the least powerful representative in the New York delegation with a power score of 8.28 (by comparison, the state average is 19.60).

How on earth did this man survive "Foleygate"?

Sorry, the site was down for a few hours. I don't know whether somebody hacked in or whether some mischief was going on. Anyway, here are a few updates:

Kirsten Gillibrand voted for the anti-surge resolution and recently spoke with peace activists (http://www.fox23news.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=88453198-e8cc-414f-8669-ce46a3496e6a)
Meanwhile, almost all Upstate Republicans were against the recent anti-surge resolution, including McHugh, Kuhl, and Reynolds. Jim Walsh was the only Upstate Republican representative to cross over and vote for the resolution, and I (as well as many others) think this is only due to Walsh's increasing vulnerability representing a district which has been trending increasinly Democratic in recent years.
