"Stand Up In September" Vigils August 28th (Albany, Saratoga, and Columbia Counties)

The local moveon.org coordinator recently sent out e-mails urging activists to begin organizing for "Stand Up In September" vigils on August 28th. The purpose of the upcoming vigils are to urge Congressional members to stand up to the President next month and seek to immediately end the war in Iraq.

After last Thursday's MoveOn's "Cost of War" report release Press Conferences, the next step in MoveOn's Out of Iraq campaign will be "Stand Up in September" Vigils on Tues. August 28th.

This September, after hearing General Petraeus' report, Congress will decide whether we bring our troops home or spend another year fighting an unwinnable religious civil war. As Congress heads back to DC, we're here to tell them that it's time to take a stand.
We're holding candlelight vigils and Town Hall meetings in cities all over the nation on August 28--National Take a Stand Day--to remember the human cost of the war and urge our members of Congress to stand up in September and end this endless war (http://political.moveon.org/event/septembervigil/).

MoveOn members in Columbia County will have a vigil in Hudson (http://moveon.org/event/events/event.html?event_id=40028). I hope we can hold vigils in Albany, Saratoga, & possibly other parts of the region. I suggest we hold a vigil on Central Ave & Wolf Rd in Albany/Colonie around 5pm, & in Saratoga at Broadway & Church at 7pm.

Can you host a vigil in Albany, Saratoga, or elsewhere August 28th? If so, please go to http://pol.moveon.org/event/events/create.html?action_id=92 & sign up to host a vigil. MoveOn is planning on sending out announcements by Aug. 22nd, so they need us to sign up to host these vigils by the end of the day Tues. Aug. 21st.
We can then work together to plan, organize, & publicize these vigils, so we can urge our members of Congress to stand up in September and end this endless war!
Feel free to contact me 518-583-4326 or joe.seeman@yahoo.com (best to call - I'm on the road until Wed. & not checking email often).

Also - if you are interested in joining a local MoveOn council based in Saratoga County, please contact Gail at 518-583-3986 or g42cap@verizon.net; & if you'd like to help form a local MoveOn council based in any other part of the Capital Region, please let me know.

Thanks for all you're doing to stop the war!

Peace,
Joe Seeman

Albany County: Signatures Needed for Patricia Slavick and Doug Bullock

E-mails were recently sent out urging people to sign petitions for Patricia Slavick for Albany County Comptroller and Doug Bullock for Albany County Legislature District 8:

As most of you know-its the tail end of the PETITION PERIOD. For sure, there are going to be challenges to the petitions from any non-organizational candidate, so it is important that we help get as many signatures as possible.

Pat Slavick running for Albany County Comptroller has a few nights this week she could really use some help-John Rodat is coordinating several nights. Contact John at: flyinggeekrabbit@yahoo.com or drop me a line at DUBOHY@yahoo.com 423-6663.

Anyone wanting PAT SLAVICK lawn signs, please let us know.

Doug Bullock is going out Monday and Tuesday in the Pine Hills area. DBull@capital.net. Doug is doing ok with signatures but has a three-way primary so to make sure there are enough, he is going back out.It was a hot one on the Albany streets yesterday, but we snagged a few.

Slavick and Bullock are two great progressive grassroots candidates who need our support, especially since they currently lack the backing of the Albany Democratic establishment.
