Once again, Bush and the Republicans put Religious Dogma ahead of Logic and Intellect

For the third time in a row, last week President Bush vetoed stem cell research legislation, once again ignoring the will of the American public, of which polling indicates overwhelmingly supports the measure. All in all, it seemed like Bush was making another attempt to appease his narrow-minded fundamentalist base, which at this point is likely the only demographic left strongly supporting him.

To top it off, the vast majority of Republicans in Congress, including all six remaining Republicans in the New York delegation, also voted against birth control aid legislation last week. (The measure now will likely pass in the Senate, but will almost certainly be vetoed by Bush)

As I keep saying, the United States must be the absolute laughing stock of the modernized world. At times it's hard to believe that we're now in 2007, but yet we're still making big issues out of whether sanitary birth control and life-saving stem cell research should be legalized.
