Last week, Republican John McHugh, who represents much of Northern New York in Congress gave a speech on the floor "leading the opposition" to the Democratic resolution against the continued surge of troops in Iraq.

Like usual, John McHugh is on the wrong side of the aisle again...now he's the key player in trying to stroke up continued support for Bush's failed mission in Iraq. Listen to portions of his floor speech on North Country Public Radio on how getting out of Iraq will "give comfort to the enemies" - http://www.northcountrypublicradio.org/news/audio/news070214c.m3u
"...for all the good intent bodied in this proposal, it will not bring a single soldier home sooner...it won't change the course of a single battle, it won't even alter a pebble on the battlefield in which the struggles will be fought..." (Congressman John McHugh)
Now contrast McHugh's speech to Maurice Hinchey's floor speech...
"This administration carried out an illegal, unnecessary unjustified invasion of Iraq" (Congressman Maurice Hinchey)
Also contrast McHugh to Gillibrand...
"...Last November the voters in Upstate New York spoke loudly and clearly in demanding a change in direction in Iraq and I will cast my vote in favor of this resolution to fulfill my duty to represent their will..." "...As I travel throughout my district holding town hall meetings and Congress at Your Corner events to meet with constituents, I hear a consistent message from the families I represent. They say, Congresswoman, we need a new plan for Iraq..." "...I couldn't agree with their comments more. Unfortunately, the President's plan is not a change of direction - but rather more of the same..." (Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand) Watch the video - http://www.house.gov/apps/list/press/ny20_gillibrand/IraqRes.shtml
Besides this, contrast McHugh to Mike Arcuri...
"...It is become overwhelmingly clear that the current strategy to secure the peace of Iraq is failing and yet the administration contends that sending more combat troops into Iraq is somehow a silver bullet that is going to quell to ongoing violence..." (Congressman Mike Arcuri)
